BIO* 121 General Biology I Credits: 4
This course will introduce the major concepts of biology. Topics will include cell theory, cell division, molecular and cellular biology, photosynthesis, and genetic inheritance. Students will survey major themes in biology including ecology, evolution, reproduction, and homeostasis. In laboratory, students will develop an understanding of the scientific method, will study the basic techniques of scientific investigation, and will learn how to write laboratory reports. Three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory per week are required. Prerequisite: Basic Skills Assessment placement at ENG* 101 and MAT* 137 or above. Recommended: ENG* 101 and MAT* 137 (may be taken concurrently) TAP Competency: Scientific Knowledge & Understanding; Scientific Reasoning
